Mapping The War

As part of our "Mapping The War" project, our goal in phase one was to accurately locate and document the 100+ known engagements from the After Action Reports we reviewed. We're pleased to announce that we have completed this phase of the project, and the results are available for viewing on our map (version 1) below.

In addition to pinpointing these engagements, we're also focused on providing comprehensive summaries for each one, ensuring that viewers and researchers alike have ample resources to match the locations with the events that transpired there.

To further our efforts in preserving the history of VPB-119, we're also working in close coordination with the amazing professionals at the U.S. National Archives. Specifically, we're actively seeking access to the original After Action Reports to digitally photograph the original photos still in the files. While microfilm replications have been a great step in preservation efforts, we aim to bring the richness of the original images to life using modern high-definition scanning equipment.

Through our ongoing efforts, we're committed to honoring the legacy of VPB-119 and its brave crews, ensuring that their contributions to our nation's history are never forgotten.
